Residents and visitors can expect to find more than 35 vendors selling locally and sustainably produced meats and vegetables, baked goods, artisan wares and prepared foods from a variety of world cuisines. The Sackville Farmers Market and the Town of Sackville will be partnering to host the Market in the Park throughout the spring, summer and fall, ending the last Saturday in October. In addition, the market will feature extended hours in 2016 by staying open until 1p.m. from April to October.

The launch takes place in conjunction with the second annual Bordertown Festival and will feature live music from Fredericton-based traditional music duo Frantically Atlantic, which plays traditional Celtic, Acadian, and Maritime tunes on tin whistle, fiddle, guitar, bodhran, hammered dulcimer and bouzouki.

“We’re excited to return to what has proved to be an excellent platform for local food and community gathering,” says market manager Michael Freeman.

Following the five-month trial run in the park in 2015, the Sackville Farmers Market gathered feedback from vendors through a series of surveys. Respondents described Bill Johnstone Park as a good location for the market based on its family-friendly vibe, accessible parking, excellent infrastructure for vendors, and festive, multi-functional feel.

Jamie Burke, senior manager of corporate projects for the Town of Sackville, echoed Freeman’s excitement.

“We’re delighted to have the Market in the Park for the 2016 season. The community response to the Market in the Park in 2015 was overwhelmingly positive, so we’re happy that the market has chosen the Bill Johnstone Memorial Park for their 2016 home. It’s a wonderful atmosphere, and we encourage everyone to come out on Saturdays to support local vendors and enjoy the festive environment.”

For more information, contact Freeman at 536-7378 or Burke at 364-4930.

“We’re so happy to collaborate with the town to offer a warm-season market at this location,” Freeman said.
